The Goodies' first single was comprised of two songs which would be included on their album The Goodies Sing Songs from The Goodies (seen in the next entry).
Decca Records, The Goodies' first record label, also released this single in France; that copy came with a picture sleeve
Decca SKL 5175. Copyright 1973.Released January 1974.
Reissued as: The World Of The Goodies
Tracks on this album are: All Things Bright And Beautiful, Ride My Pony, Stuff That Gibbon, Mummy I Don\'t Like My Meat, Show Me The Way, Goodies Theme, Sparrow Song, Taking You Back, Sunny Morning, Winter Sportsman, and Spacehopper.
This album contains rerecorded versions of songs which appeared in episodes of The Goodies with the exception of the first track, All Things Bright and Beautiful. According to Bill Oddie, they’d planned instead to include a version of Land of Hope and Glory but ran into licensing problems for that song.
UK Single with the Inbetweenies
|
UK:
Bradley’s Records - BRAD 7241. Copyright 1974
Released October 1974.
Starting with this release, The Goodies moved to the Bradley's Records label.
This single was released twice. Initally The Inbetweenies was the A-side and Father Christmas Do Not Touch Me was the B-side. A few months later the two sides were reversed; the Father Christmas A-side is the more commonly found version.
The non-UK releases vary as to which song is on the A-side. In the ones I have found so far, the Australian single has Father Christmas as the A-side while the German and South African records feature The Inbetweenies as the A-side. The German single came with a picture sleeve.
Australia:
M7 Records - MSB 085. Copyright 1974.
Germany:
Hansa - 13 719 AT
South Africa:

UK:

Released February 1975.
International (non-UK) releases:
see Funky Gibbon Around the World page
The version of Funky Gibbon on the single is slightly different from the album version.
As The Goodies' biggest hit, and a top-five single, The Funky Gibbon appears to have had the largest worldwide release. Given the large number of international releases, the single has been given a dedicated page on this site (Funky Gibbon Around the World) to showcase the labels and picture sleeves from Australia, France, Germany, Ireland, Japan, New Zealand, Spain, the United States, and elsewhere.
Decca F13578. Copyright 1973. Released April 1975.
UK:
Decca F13578. Copyright 1973. Released April 1975.
Due to the 1975 reissue of the first Goodies album (now retitled The World of The Goodies), this second single of songs from that album was releaed (the first having been All Things Bright and Beautiful and Winter Sportsman).

Both songs on this single - Nappy Love and Wild Thing - appeared in Goodies episodes (both songs were used in The Goodies - Almost Live, with Wild Thing also used in The Goodies Rule - OK?).
Like the previous single, this was released in the UK on Bradley's Records and in Germany on Hansa. Once again, the German release came with a picture sleeve. This sleeve featured an alternate version of the photo that would appear on the cover of the 1976 Australian LP Best of The Goodies album (seen below).

This album was released in Japan with a drastically different cover (that artwork was also used for the single from this album that was released in Japan as can be seen on the Funky Gibbon Around the World page on this site). While the Japanese version of the album has the same songs, they are rearranged into a different order (The Funky Gibbon, Custard Pie, Wild Thing, Cricklewood, Baby Samba, Rock With A Policeman, The Cricklewood Shakedown, Nappy Love, I\'m A Teapot, Working The Line, Goodies Theme, and Please Let Us Play).
Many of the songs from this album were used in the episode The Goodies – Almost Live. A different version of Working the Line appears in the episode Bunfight at the OK Tearooms.

UK:
Bradley’s Records – BRAD 7533. Copyright 1975.
Released November 1975.
The second Goodies Christmas-themed single was Make A Daft Noise For Christmas. It's B-side,The Last Chance Dance, appeared in the episode The Goodies Almost Live.
While the single itself is easy to find, the picture sleeve shown at the right turns up rarely. It is believed this was only issued with early/promotional releases of the single.
Australia:
M7 Records MSB-153. Copyright 1976.
The Funky Gibbon must have been particularly popular in Australia, as it was twice released on a single in that country. The first appearance, in 1975, had the standard B-side, Sick-Man Blues (that single can be seen on the Funky Gibbon Around the World page).
The next year the song was reissued on Australia's M7 records with a new song on the flip side, making the only single release of the song Custard Pie. Both Custard Pie and Funky Gibbon appeared on The New Goodies LP.

Good Ole Country Music first appeared on The New Goodies LP, while Bounce didn't see it's first LP release until The Goodies Greatest. Both songs appeared in the episode The Goodies - Almost Live, with an alternate version of Bounce turning up in episode The Goodies Rule - OK?.
Once again, this single was released in the UK on Bradley's Records and in Germany on Hansa, with the German release coming with a picture sleeve.
Australia:
M7 Records – MSB-154
Copyright 1976
Australia's M7 Records chose to match up Good Ole Country Music with the song Wild Thing on this single. In the UK both of these songs had appeared as B-sides on other singles (Wild Thing as the B-side to Nappy Love, and Good Ole Country Music as the B-side to Bounce).

The Goodies' move to Island Records also marked a change of style. The Policemans Opera is a mini rock opera (described on the album’s back cover as “A major Work in four movements – with a few bits in between”). Several of the songs also contain more adult themes than in the Goodies’ previous work.
A version of Cactus in my Y- Fronts appears in the episode The Goodies – Almost Live.

1978 was MIckey Mouse's 50th anniversary. In honour of the event, The Goodies recorded a special version of The Mickey Mouse Club theme song. The single was released with the B-side Funky Farm, a song which appears on The Goodies Beastly Record album.
This record marked the first time a UK Goodies single was regularly issued with a picture sleeve. Their next single, also on EMI records and featuring songs from The Goodies Beastly Record, would also come in a picture sleeve.
It is common to find promo copies of this record as well as the standard version.

2 Cassette Set:
Castle Communications Australia Ltd - ESDMC 153. Released 1991.
Disk one contains the contents of A Poke In The Eye LP (including the Goodies performing Funky Gibbon), which is shown in the previous entry.
The second CD contains additional material from the 1976 Amnesty International performance including an additional three Goodies songs, Cactus in My ‘Y’ Fronts, Mummy Mummy Mummy, and Sick Man’s Blues.
An interesting piece of trivia is that Graeme sings the lead vocal on this version of Cactus in My "Y" Fronts, making this the only song on which all three Goodies have at some point been the lead singer. Bill sang it in the radio show I'll Sorry I'll Read That Again; Tim took the lead in the version on the Goodies Nothing To Do With Us album and in the episode The Goodies - Almost Live.

The story titles are Jaws of Steel, The Banana Kid, House on Hangman’s Hill, and Alien Planet.
Artist: Horst Jankowski
Mercury 72425. Copyright 1965.
While not a Goodies song, this single certainly deserves inclusion in a list of Goodies-related records thanks to the prominent role it plays in one of the series' most popular episodes, Radio Goodies. In that episode the Goodies start a pirate radio station with only one record, A Walk in the Black Forest (though in the episode the flip side is A Walk in the Black Forest, Part 2). The song also is briefly heard in the Goodies episodes Lighthouse Keeping Loonies and Chubby Chumps.
This particular record is a representative example; the song was released on other singles as well as on at least one Horst Jankowski album and CD.
