Like the other Goodies, Tim Brooke-Taylor has appeared in many other television shows and films.  This page focuses on home video releases of Tim's solo work as an actor or presenter.

In some cases only representative samples of a title are shown, rather than attempting to cover every release (for example, when a video has been repackaged as part of a box set, reissued with a new catalog number, released in another country/region, or released on Blu-Ray).  Some titles may also be available from authorized online streaming services such as Amazon Instant Video - you may wish to check the services available in your part of the world.

This 1969 film was originally titled 12 + 1 but also is commonly called The Thirteen Chairs.Tim has a recurring role in the film as one of the characters in search of a treasure hidden in a set of chairs. The only official DVD release I have found so far (shown below) only has Italian audio & subtitles.

Tim Brooke-Taylor presents two classic fairy tales in \"a video programme for young children that is stimulating and entertaining using stories, special sets, delightful music and colourful artwork\".  The VHS came with a colour storybook.

Asterix and the Big Fight - 30th Anniversary Limited Edition (VHS)

The 30th Anniversary edition VHS release of Asterix and the Big Fight featured an all star cast with Bill Oddie playing the lead role of Asterix and Bernard Bresslaw as Obelix.  Tim Brooke-Taylor has a very small part as Cacofonix.

Note that this VHS has a yellow starburst saying "Asterix 30th Anniversary Limited Edition" and a red box at the bottom saying "Featuring the voices of Bill Oddie as Asterix", etc. This VHS appears to be the only edition of the film with this cast.  While Asterix and the Big Fight was included in an Asterix box set with the credits from the 30th anniversary edition the actual film used had a different cast.

Tim Brooke-Taylor was a member of the cast of the 1968-1969 television series Marty (along with Marty Feldman, John Junkin, and Roland MacLeod).  Material from the series was released on VHS and later on DVD.

How to Irritate People (VHS & DVD)

Tim was part of the cast of this one-off 1969 television show featuring John Cleese introducing a series of sketches on ways to irriate people.  Also in the cast are Graham Chapman, Michael Palin, Gillian LInd, Connie Booth, and Dick Vosburgh.  Given the Monty Python connections, it is not surprising that this show has been released multiple times on VHS & DVD.

Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory (VHS, DVD, & Blu-ray)

Tim appears near the beginning of this classic 1971 film in an uncredited role as a Computer Operator who is trying to program an uncooperative computer to help his clients find one of Wonka's golden tickets.  

Because of the popularity of this film there have been many VHS & DVD releases; only a few of the more recent ones are listed here. Note that some editions have commentary from the actors who played The Wonka Kids;  in this commentary Julie Dawn Cole, who played Veruca Salt, talks about Tim (due to her having worked on a play with him in recent years).

Grasshopper Island (VHS, DVD, & Audio CD) 

Tim Brooke-Taylor plays "The Voices of Authority" in this 1971 television series about "three brothers nicknamed Toughy, Smarty and Mouse [who] run away to find an uninhabited island - as far as possible from the do's and don'ts of the real world."

In the audio CD Tim is the storyteller, narrating the entire story with music from the original series.

Barney Gets Into Mischief and Other Stories (VHS & DVD)

Tim Brooke-Taylor provide the voice of Barney the dog in this animated series.  From the back of the box: "Clumsy canine Barney dreams of stardom and fame, taking the opportunities pointed out to him by streetwise mouse Roger".  The DVD has eight animated adventures: Barney Gets into Mischief, Barney's Hungry Day, Barney's Treasure Hunt, Barney's Forgotten Birthday, Barney Nabs a Crook, Barney's TV Act, Barney's Big Spring Clean, and Barney the TV Director.  The VHS tape has 12 episodes, but the titles are not listed on the box.

This set contains five episodes from the 1967 sketch comedy series which starred Tim Brooke-Taylor, Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Marty Feldman, and Aimi Macdonald. Bonus features include an interview with Tim Brooke-Taylor. An interview with Terry Jones (of Monty Python) is also included but that one is primarily about the Do Not Adjust Your Set DVD which was released simultaneously with this title (the same two interviews appear as bonus features on both sets).  Bill Oddie makes an appearance in the sketch Visitors for the Use of Lonely Patients, and Barry Cryer can also be seen in a few sketches.

The DVD case comes packaged inside a cardboard sleeve. The back cover gives this detailed listing of the sketches in each episode:

The At Last The 1948 Show DVD was originally prepared for release in the US by Tango Entertainment and then licensed to distributors in the UK and Australia. The US set is pictured – artwork for the UK and Australian releases is largely the same, with minor country-specific changes (such as the ratings symbols, distributor logos, etc.) While the UK and Australian sets are listed as PAL my understanding is that the disks are identical to the US release and were not converted from the US NTSC version (although I haven’t heard of anyone experiencing difficulties playing the DVDs in the UK or Australia).

There were originally 13 episodes of At Last The 1948 Show. Like a lot of other British programming of its era, the original shows were believed to have been lost when British broadcasters wiped tapes of old series. A few years ago five compilation episodes of At Last The 1948 Show were found in Sweden – sketches and Aimi’s linking pieces from various episodes had been assembled to create these new compilations. While additional complete episodes have been found since that time this release only contains the five compilation episodes. There was also some criticism about the fact that the material for the DVD was not digitally restored (a good review of the set can be found on the DVD Times website at http://www.dvdtimes.co.uk/content.php?contentid=57897). Despite these shortcomings, it’s great to finally have this material on DVD.

This set was released simultaneously with the At Last the 1948 Show DVD listed above. It is included in this guide because of Tim Brooke-Taylor’s contributions - he appears in one episode (filling in for an ailing Michael Palin), and a recent interview with him is included as a bonus feature (this is the same interview that appears on the 1948 Show set).

This release contains nine episodes from the late 1960’s series that featured future Monty Python members Eric Idle, Terry Jones and Michael Palin, along with castmates David Jason and Denise Coffee. Neil Innes’ Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band also appears in multiple episodes. My understanding is that none of the episodes in this set contain Terry Gilliam’s animations (even though the front cover claims they are included).

F for Fake (The Criterion Collection) (DVD)

This release of Orson Welles's "free-form documentary" F for Fake includes as a bonus feature the 1995 documetary Orson Welles: One-Man Band. The documentary looks at many of Welles's projects that were never completed as well as short movies that he never released.  This includes work he did with Tim Brooke-Taylor and Graeme Garden (in the Stately Homes andOne Man Band segments).

Tim Brooke-Taylor appears in a series of training videos from the Inns of Court School of Law which use dramatised examples to teach the golden rules of communication.  In the first of the series, Do I Have to Talk to the Client, Tim is the ill-prepared barrister, "giving a comprehensive example of how NOT to talk to the client and the dire consequences of getting it wrong. As the story unfolds, two professional barristers intervene and give advice on the do's and dont's. The end result is an effective and productive interview, where the client leaves with a positive impression of the law and a clear understanding of her situation."

Tim appears in a series of training videos from the Inns of Court School of Law which use dramatised examples to teach the golden rules of communication.  The third video in the series follows the progress of the same case as in the previous videos; it "considers the essential skills which are vital for advocates to acquire in order to effectively conduct their case in court. Tim Brooke-Taylor and a fellow would-be advocate perform the tasks of examination-in-chief and cross-examination under the watchful eye of a judge and two barristers, who not only criticise their performances, but also demonstrate how it can be done more effectively."
